EAST LANSING -- Some Northern Michigan teachers will take part in a special one day water education training session thanks to a grant.
Grand Traverse County’s Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) was awarded a $39,017 Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation grant to support a one-day Project WET teacher training.
Project WET is a nonprofit organization dedicated to worldwide water education.
Educational activities are designed to complement an existing curriculum in a way that is informative, fun and teacher friendly. The aim is to encourage a personal, lifelong commitment of responsibility and community participation.
The grant will provide teachers with water-related activities for Michigan’s students in grades K–12 through the Michigan Water Stewardship Program (MWSP). The MWSP is a cooperative effort designed to help individuals reduce the risks of groundwater contamination associated with pesticide and nitrogen fertilizer use.
Registration for elementary teachers in Benzie, Leelanau, Grand Traverse and Kalkaska counties is underway.
