It's a sure sign of fall in Michigan - the arrival of deer archery season.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment reminds hunters that the season opens statewide Friday. It runs until Nov. 14, then reopens after firearm deer season for late archery hunting from Dec. 1 to Jan. 1.
An archery license, combination license regular tag or combination license-restricted tag can be used to harvest an antlerless deer or a buck. Antlerless-only licenses also are valid during archery season.
In August, the Natural Resources Commission voted to allow all legal hunters at least 10 years old to use crossbows statewide.
This time of year also kicks off a busy season for business supplier hunters with all of their gear. With not only bow hunting season kicking off, duck hunting starts Saturday in Northern Michigan.
Each year the outdoor sports brings thousands of people and millions of dollars to the region.
Officials at Jay's Sporting Goods in Gaylord said even though the economy isn't completely recovered, people aren't trimming back on hunting supplies.
"It's surprisingly been alright. We've kind of been expecting it to go down a little bit, which it has, but it's still been pretty nice, a lot of people that are devoted to hunting, so it's been really nice," explained Corey Schram.
Another big boost for the businesses comes on November 15, when the firearm deer season begins.
