Everything from custom wedding cakes to special occasion cakes and desserts is what you'll find at the business.
LAKE ANN -- For Ann Barraclough she might bake for a living, but it's not a cake job when it comes to her 3D creations and pies. Aunt B's Cakes and Desserts involves much more than that.
"It's mainly wedding cakes but baby showers, birthdays, anniversary, anything, new jobs, retirement. Any occasion that you think we'd need a cake for, that's what we do," says Barraclough.
Her love for baking goes back to her childhood.
"I baked up all my life. The cake business really started with my oldest daughter's first birthday. I made a Winnie the Pooh cake and turned out really fun so I started dabbling in the decorating and then did it for friends and family," says Barraclough.
Soon people started asking her to make wedding cakes and special occasion cakes and desserts.
"How great is that to do a hobby and get paid for it? I have a lot of people compare me to people on the Food Network and TLC and I think people are really excited up here because you can have that New York-Chicago style cake right here in northern Michigan," says Barraclough.
Barraclough also tries to keep it local.
"We try to use Michigan fruit for fruit pies and then do use a local company here, light of day tea and we have several cakes we uses spices from them, lavender right here in Michigan," says Barraclough.
But it's what goes into the custom creations is what makes them stand out.
"We try to make everything from scratch. We make even our own vanilla. We just want to be as delicious as possible especially when you have a wedding cake. Not only should the cake be gorgeous it should taste just as good," says Barraclough.
You can find Ann Barraclough's pies at Lake Ann Grocery in Benzie County and Northpeak Brewing Company in downtown Traverse City.
