Registered sex offender rides school bus with kids
EVART -- The Osceola County Sheriff’s Department says a registered sex offender was allowed to ride a school bus to and from Evart Schools Monday.
Authorities received a complaint by a concerned grandparent who had warned her grandchildren about the suspect before. After an investigation, the sheriff’s department confirmed the complaint to be valid.
Evart Public Schools Superintendent Howard Hyde says the bus driver is on leave pending the investigation. A letter was sent home to parents Wednesday. It says “We understand the concerns of parents and guardians. This incident should have never happened and I apologize to the parents and students of our school district.”
The 23-year old suspect is in police custody on a separate warrant. No charges have been made in this case, but authorities have turned in their findings to the prosecutor’s office.
