GAYLORD, MI -- Hunting stops across Northern Michigan are getting ready for their busy time of year.

Bow hunting season for deer starts this Friday and duck hunting season starts Saturday in Northern Michigan.

Each year the outdoor sports bring thousands of people and millions of dollars to the region.

Jay’s Sporting Goods in Gaylord says even though we just had a recession, people aren't skipping hunting.

"It's surprisingly been alright.  We've kind of been expecting it to go down a little bit, which it has, but it's still been pretty nice, a lot of people that are devoted to hunting, so it's been really nice," said Corey Schram.

Another big boost for these businesses comes on November 15th.

That's the start of regular firearm deer season.
