Prescription drug abuse and misuse is a problem across the nation. Now a program is aiming to find a solution right here in northern Michigan.

TRAVERSE CITY -- Prescription drug abuse and misuse is growing problem across the United States.  Right here in northern Michigan, an event on Saturday called "Prescription Drug Take Back Day" is aiming to fix the problem.

Area law enforcements agencies are working together to collect unwanted or expired prescription pills.  The city, county and state police are setting up collection sites at their agencies to dispose of the pills correctly.  You can drop the unwanted pills off at State Police posts or your local city or county law enforcement offices on Saturday, September 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

7&4's Melissa Smith also sat down with Lieutenant Bill Elliott with the Michigan State Police post in Traverse City to see what local law enforcement is noticing with prescription drug abuse in the area, and how they're aiming to correct the growing concern.
