TRAVERSE CITY -- Students will be taking a day off this school year to celebrate a civil rights leader who changed the face of America.
Traverse City Area Public Schools announced it will celebrate Martin Luther King Day by taking the day off.
Earlier this year Michael Moore offered to give Lars Hockstad Auditorium, which is in Central Elementary School, a makeover, if the district celebrated the civil rights leaders' birthday by not holding class on that date.
The district had been considering the move for a while and finally made the decision. School will be closed for TCAPS on January 17.
Do you think schools should shut down for Martin Luther King Day? Or should students stay in class and learn about his legacy?
