TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City Commissioners have voted to speed up removal of one of the Boardman River dams.
Mayor Chris Bzdok says commissioners approved a plan Monday night to dismantle Brown Bridge Dam without the help of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
That means it could get torn down in the next 2 years instead of taking as long as 10.
The project will likely cost more than 2 million dollars, but close to a million has already been raised by the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
The city does plan on having the Army Corp manage removal of the Sabin and Boardman dams.
