Volunteers give back to the community

CHARLEVOIX, MI -- Tuesday was Char-Em United Way's seventh annual "Day of Caring" in Charlevoix and Emmet counties.

On the "Day of Caring," volunteers helped out with several projects for low income seniors, non-profits, and governmental entities to give back to the community.

One project, and one group of Charlevoix High School kids, stood out.

Or maybe, we should say kicked out.

Charlevoix High School sends their students out for day of caring, and this lucky group was able to play a friendly game of kickball with a group of special needs adults from the Bergmann Center.

"They have a lunch, they set up the game, it's a lot of fun for the clients to get out and play with the younger kids and enjoy the field and help clean up over there too," said Char-Em United Way Board Member Jennifer Rakasi.

The United Way expected around 600 volunteers this year.
