BOYNE CITY -- The Boyne City Police Department is investigating the death of a baby.
The body of the newborn was found in a backpack Tuesday afternoon. Officials are not releasing the location of where the backpack was found at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
The backpack was found by a passerby when a foul odor was noticed. The person brought the backpack into the police station, where Officer Craig Remsberg opened it up and found plastic bags containing the baby's body.
The body was taken to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids for a forensic autopsy.
