Instead of burning the retired flags, they were donated
BOYNE CITY, MI -- Typically, when you retire an old, warn out flag, you're supposed to burn it.
But, the Veteran's Memorial Park committee in Boyne City had another idea.
The park has flags honoring every different area of the Military, and every year, the flags are replaced because of wear and tear.
Last year, the replaced flags were given to World War II Veterans who helped raise them on Memorial Day.
This year, the flags went to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts who helped the Vet's raise the flags.
"To pass the legend of the Veterans on to the young people who will never forget today, this is going to stick with them forever, and who they got the flag from," said George Lasater of the Veteran’s Memorial Park Committee.
