BIG RAPIDS (AP) -- The union for Ferris State University faculty says its members have voted to take steps toward a job action should contract talks fail.

The vote lets the bargaining team request a job action vote "if a satisfactory contract settlement is not reached."

The Ferris Faculty Association also says it's holding informational picketing Wednesday on the Big Rapids campus.

A message seeking comment from the university's news office was left after business hours Tuesday.

The next contract bargaining session is scheduled Thursday.
