TRAVERSE CITY -- Two people are behind bars and the search continues for a third after a teenager is assaulted in Traverse City.

Police were called to the Open Space in Traverse City just before 8 p.m. Wednesday.  When they arrived they found several people involved in a fight.

A 17-year-old from Grawn suffered injuries to his face and cuts to his hands, elbows and feet.  Witnesses pointed out the two suspects and told police a third person ran off.

The teenager told police he had been having trouble with the suspects for several weeks and tried to leave the area when he saw them.  Witnesses told police the victim did not do anything to instigate the assault and when he was approached by the suspects they immediately began punching him.

A 20-year-old and an 18-year-old will be charged with assault and battery.  The third suspect has been identified and a warrant for his arrest is expected to be issued today.
