Home invasion, stabbing a lie police say
EMMET COUNTY -- An Emmet County woman is facing felonious assault and filing a false report charges.
Emmet County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home invasion, stabbing in Cross Village. 35-year old Dakota Shananaquet told authorities that a man and woman had broke into the home she was staying in. She said she had been stabbed 15 times, but also said she stabbed the instruders before they fled the home.
Sheriff Pete Wallin says detectives working on the case noted a number of inconsistencies in Shananaquet's story while investigating the crime scene. For example, the detective found that the glass from the broken window was pushed out onto the porch and not into the home. The knife Shananaquet told police she was stabbed with did not have any blood on it accept for a very small amount on the tip. Shananaquet explained that she had wiped the knife on her shirt, but could not produce a bloody shirt. Sheriff Wallin says she did have some cuts on her body, but was not stabbed.
The charges she is facing carry a maximum penalty of four years in prison. Her bond has been set at $1,000. Her arraignment has been set for September 9th.
