PETOSKEY, MI -- The Petoskey Department of Public Safety is going to try something new this year, and it could involve you!

The department is going to have its first-ever citizen's academy.

The training will take people from the Petoskey community and will show what DPS is all about.

You can learn about law enforcement, firefighting, and EMS services, which will include an abbreviated version of the certification process and hands-on training.

"They'll be interacting with us, and hopefully taking away a better understanding of what we do and then obviously with the interaction we have with our citizens, we get a better understanding of their concerns of the community, and I think it's a win-win for everybody," said Petoskey DPS Director John Calabrese.

The citizens academy will be held the last week in September.
