There is help for battered women
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Women’s Resource Center in Traverse City helped 2,000 battered women last year.
Advocates at the center say every situation is different, so they make a safety plan tailored to the victim. Even if abuser has a high profile job, like a police officer, they say they can help. Most of the time the victim can stay in the area but if need be they can find a safe haven out of state or even of country.
Lead Advocate for the Women’s Resource Center, Aimee Sandula says, “We have had women who have come in and thought violence is the only resort, whether it’s to themselves or to somebody else, and that’s what we want to prevent.”
Anyone who is living in fear or in danger can stop by the center for help or just for initial information.
