War of 1812 replicas on Great Lakes tour
BOYNE CITY, MI -- Two big boats that signify a lot of history are docked at the new One Water Marina in Boyne City Tuesday.
The large boats usually dock in Charlevoix but until this year, Boyne City hasn't been able to dock the boats.
The schooners "Pride of Baltimore II" and "Links" are replica's of the ships that fought in the War of 1812 and are making a Great Lakes tour this summer.
"There's lure and romance to the age of sail, and we represent a great age and period of history. The War of 1812 was really America's adolescence, or coming of age, and one of the big success stories are the privateers out of Baltimore, you can see both the Pride of Baltimore and the Schooner Links here are examples of that, they are the boats that brought about the inspiration for the Star-Spangled Banner because of their success at sea," said Pride of Baltimore Captain Jamie Trost.
The boats will depart Wednesday morning to Green Bay.
