BUCKLEY -- Thanks to surveillance video, Michigan State Police are hopeful that they will be able to identify the 3 people responsible for vandalizing the campus of Buckley Community Schools.

Last Wednesday, the group of vandals caused hundreds of dollars worth of damage to the school and stole two American flags. Community leaders said they are outraged at the blatant act of disrespect for our country.

“I think it is pretty heinous. The United States flag is our symbol and it’s important to us. For somebody to steal it and disgrace it by dragging it on the ground…it's not acceptable,” State Trooper Rick Pearson said.

Buckley Schools Superintendent Rick Heitmeyer said he is also disappointed by this act of disrespect. However, he said it will not dampen the school's rich sense of patriotism.

“We are proud to be Americans and we are proud to be Michiganders. It’s going to be a great school year and when the kids get here nobody will even know anything happened,” Heitmeyer said.

The three suspects are described as young men between the ages of 16 and 20 years old. If you have any information about the vandalism, you are asked to contact Michigan State Police at 231- 779-6040.
