MT. PLEASANT -- Each year more than 100 million people get new cell phones. Most of the old cell phones get tossed in a drawer and are never used again.

By donating your old cell phone to the Isabella County Sheriff's Department, you will be supporting victims of abuse and senior citizens in Isabella County.

The goal of the Isabella County Sheriff's Department is to provide emergency communications to at-risk residents in Isabella County. In order to donate your old cell phone, all you need to do is bring it to the Isabella County Sheriff's Department and give it to a police clerk.

If you plan on attending the Isabella County Youth and Farm Fair, please feel free to drop it off at the Sheriff Department's tent, Monday-Saturday between the hours of 4pm-9pm. The tent will be located next to the Fair Office.

Once the phones are donated, they will be sent in to be refurbished into emergency use only phones. They will be cleaned of any personal information and packaged with a new battery and charger. They will then be available for the Isabella County Sheriff's Department to distribute as needed to at-risk individuals.

If you feel you would benefit from having an emergency phone and are unable to afford one, please contact Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski at the Isabella County Sheriff's Department. He can be reached at (989) 772-5911.

Your donation may provide that critical link between law enforcement and someone in trouble.
