LANSING (AP) -- Michigan's struggling economy is hurting children.

Michigan fell to 30th in the latest state-by-state ranking in the Kids Count survey from the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Michigan ranked 27th last year.

The latest Kids Count report is being released Tuesday.

Michigan has had the nation's highest unemployment rate for much of the past four years and that's reflected in the rankings, which are based primarily on data from 2007 and 2008.

Michigan ranked 44th among the states with 31 percent of children living in families where no parent had full-time, year-round employment in 2008.

The national average was 27 percent.

Nine other measures of child well-being are included in the survey.
