BELLAIRE -- A Northern Michigan community is helping spread an important message, that help is available to screen for breast cancer, regardless of what your health insurance covers.
The Antrim County High Tea for Breast Cancer Prevention held its first ever "Candles for a Cause" fundraiser Saturday night in Bellaire.
About 170 people helped make it a success. During the event, people lit candles in memory of loved ones ... and the lit candles also represented someone being helped by the fundraiser.
The all volunteer organization started in 2004 with its 'High Tea' event in Alden. That first year the amount of money raised helped 22 area women with breast cancer prevention and education.
In 2009 through the different fundraising events, the organization raised enough money to help 200 men and women.
This year, The Antrim County High Tea for Breast Cancer hopes to reach out to 250 people.
The group helps cover the cost of mammograms for the under-insured and uninsured in the area, as well as help cover costs of treatments for breast cancer patients.
