MACKINAC ISLAND -- Three people are behind bars, accused of trying to rob a man and beat him with a baseball bat on Mackinac Island.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
A Michigan State Police Trooper assigned to Mackinac Island was on foot patrol when he said he heard screams coming from a nearby apartment. He said he saw three men running with a bat. The trooper was able to catch two of the men, both from the Metro Detroit area.
The two suspects allegedly confessed to the trooper and Mackinac Island Police that they went into the apartment with the plan to get money that was owed to them and beat the man with a bat. Police say the men also named the third suspect who was from Illinois. He was arrested a few hours later.
Charges of Armed Robbery and First Degree Home Invasion are pending.
