Beach Advisory Lifted

SAULT STE. MARIE -- A no-body contact advisory is lifted for one Chippewa County beach.  A second beach is still closed at this time.

The Chippewa County Health Department lifted the ban for Sherman Park in Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday.    The warning was issued Wednesday after high levels of E. coli bacteria was found. 

Health officials say water quality monitoring and sample collection will be on-going through September 30.

High levels of bacteria was also found in the St. Mary's River Lake George Channel.  The health department has issued a no body contact advisory for areas along the north shore of Sugar Island within the Lake George Channel, specifically 55 N. Westshore Dr.  to 1175 N. Westshore Dr..

The advisory for the St. Mary's River area is still in effect Thursday.
