Old record was 103, a Northern Michigan Couple shot for 104
HARBOR SPRINGS, MI -- A local couple has jumped their way into the Guinness Book of World Records.
103. That's the number of tandem jumps done in a 24 hour span that holds it's place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Charlevoix's Luther Kurtz and Harbor Spring's Angela Bishop's philosophy was one jump at a time. They were leaping for 104. They started at 6:30 Tuesday night and jumped all night long. Number 28 was in the books at 11:30.
Just after 12:30 this afternoon, the couple landed jump number 93.
"I'm feeling tired, but I'm feeling it's going to happen, so I'm really excited," Kurtz said on number 98.
Luther and Angela landed 100, and with four hours left, it's almost inevitable they're going to break this world record. And they're doing it for a cause as well. They're raising money for Top of Michigan Trails Council. So, they've made more than $10,000 in donations and pledges.
"Beyond our wildest dreams how successful this has been," said Jeff Winegard, Executive Director of the Top of Michigan Trails Council.
And there was 101....102.....103, they matched the current record.....and around 3 pm Wednesday, they shattered the old with 104!
“The main thing we were doing was raising money for Top of Michigan Trails Council, a great organization," said Kurtz.
They'd do one more for an encore...105 in a span of 24 hours.
“Wouldn't trade it for anything. Nope, it was awesome," said the ecstatic jumpers and world record holders.
