Pagoda-Style Lighthouse One of Six Built In The Country
PETOSKEY, MI -- Here's a stat---According to the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association, more than 70 percent of what we enjoy today is attributed to maritime business in the past.
That's why they want to build a replica of a lighthouse that sat on the Petoskey Pier from 1912-to-1924.
The association has the go ahead from the City of Petoskey to erect the replica somewhere in the city, but now the question is where to put it?
"I think once we do this, it'll be another tourist attraction for the people to come to Michigan and i.e. this area to come and see what used to be here," said Dick Moehl of the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association.
The Pagoda-style lighthouse was one of six of its style in the nation.
The cost was bidded to be $160,000 in March, and Moehl says that money will be raised from the private-sector.
