(AP) -- A new study suggests that millions of cancer survivors have put off getting medical care because they couldn't afford it.

The researchers estimate that more than 2 million of 12 million U.S. adult cancer survivors did not get one or more needed medical services.

The work was based on national surveys that included 6,600 cancer survivors. About 8 percent of the cancer survivors said they had put off getting medical care because of costs. About 10 percent also said they had to forgo filling prescriptions.

The study was released online Monday by an American Cancer Society medical journal.
