Festival Honors World-Famous Cow
TRAVERSE CITY -- In 1932, the Traverse City State Hospital lost one of their own, but they made sure to never forget her.
She even has her own grave stone.
Sunday was the first-ever Traverse Colantha Walker Dairy Festival.
Walker was a world-champion dairy cow that produced more than 200,000 gallons of milk in her 16-year life.
People came together to celebrate the life of the cow almost 80-years later in the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.
It was a chance to remember the famous cow, but also an opportunity to highlight dairy importance.
"There's been a great focus on locally produced agriculture, you know, people that take and make the food from the earth to our table, and that network of people that are doing that, I mean, we have a renewed respect for that, and there's a lot of people that appreciate the locally produced goods that are far more sustainable," said Raymond Minervini II.
