Film Festival Founders Win Award
TRAVERSE CITY -- The founders of the Traverse City Film Festival received the 18th Annual Lyle DeYoung Award. It’s an award handed out by the Downtown Traverse City Association for those who have helped make the city vibrant.
In 2005, Michael Moore the Academy Award Winning Filmmaker, Doug Stanton a New York Times Best Selling Author, and John Robert Williams a talented photographer met at the downtown bistro Amical and set a plan that has transformed Traverse City.
Last year, 136,000 people from all over the world attended the film festival. The economic impact exceeded $6.5 million. That is why local businesses honored them Thursday night at the Traverse City Opera House.
Doug Stanton says “To be recognized by Traverse City and businesses is great. We never expected anything like this.”
While organizers are keeping tight lips about what films are coming to the festival this year, Stanton tells 7&4 News that it will continue to attract the best moviemakers.
