LANSING (AP) -- The longtime director of the Michigan Film Office is retiring.
The governor's office confirmed to The Grand Rapids Press on Wednesday that Janet Lockwood will bow out at the end of the month after 19 years on the job.
Governor's spokeswoman Liz Boyd tells the newspaper Lockwood helped grow Michigan as a film destination and provided advice as the state's film incentives were developed.
In an e-mail, Lockwood says she made the decision to retire in January and has been training someone for the job for several months.
West Michigan Film Office chief Rick Hert says Lockwood's tenure has been a success, considering she oversaw an industry that went from being worth a couple million dollars a year to one that spent more than $220 million in the state last year.
