LONG LAKE TWP. -- A portion of the local baseball community is questioning the suspension of two youth baseball players out of Long Lake Township.

Robert Cleary, assistant coach for the Shoreline Terminators, said two of his players have been suspended for the remainder of the season. The punishment stems from a physical altercation between the player’s dads. Cleary said the kids had nothing to do with it.

“Major consensus of all the parents and coaches is that the children should not be held responsible for the actions of the parents,” Cleary said.

According to the Long Lake Township Baseball League, there is a zero tolerance policy against fighting. Despite the rule, Cleary hopes the League will change their decision, punishing the parents but allowing the kids to play.

“Myself and the head coach have agreed that, or suggested that, we could pick these boys up from their homes and bring them to the games and drop them back off so they can continue to play the sport that they love,” said Cleary.
