UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- The U.N. Security Council is calling for an impartial investigation of Israel's deadly commando raid on ships taking humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

The statement condemns the "acts" that resulted in the loss of at least nine lives.

The statement agreed on was weaker than that initially demanded by the Palestinians, Arabs and Turkey.

Meanwhile, organizers of the flotilla say they're sending two more ships within the next few days and criticism about the raid is spreading inside Israel.

On the West Bank, an adviser to Mahmoud Abbas says the Palestinian president sees no need to quit indirect Mideast peace talks since the Palestinians are talking to the U.S. and not to Israel.

The Israeli military says Gaza militants crossed the border into Israel today and two died in an exchange of fire with troops.
