The $2.5 million project is part of MDOT's 5 year plan
CRAWFORD CO., MI -- A new multi-million dollar "green" rest area facility has opened on South I-75, and 7&4 news got a behind the scenes look.
Check it out -- this is the new rest area that sits five miles north of Grayling.
To build this facility the old one was closed and demolished.
Friday, the new "green" facility opened.
It cost $2.5 million and is part of MDOT’s five year plan.
"This project here is one of our green projects. We have waterless urinals, low volume toilets, we have motion detecting fans and lights, things like that. Overall, it's just going to save the taxpayers money," said MDOT Spokesperson Bob Felt.
The building is equipped with LED lights which are a cost-saver.
There's also new areas outside, picnic tables, grills, walking paths, and a dog walk.
