Attendance could be the best in 20 years
The crowds backed up into the parking lot at this year's NMC BBQ, held at the campus of Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. Thousands of people lined up to buy their tickets to the event.
All the food is donated by the Oleson family, from the buffalo burgers to the baked beans, potato salad, and cole slaw. The other big donation: time. 500 volunteers work together to put on the event
The barbecue is a five hour marathon, full of food, family fun, and friendship. But more importantly, it supports a good cause. Several different NMC programs will share the proceeds from the ticket sales.
NMC says it's expecting to raise more than $25,000 at this year's barbecue. And that's looking highly likely, as early attendance estimates put this year's crowd at 11,342. If that number holds true it could be the highest attendance since 1991.
