The Phone Will Be Refurbished And Donated To Seniors And Non-Profits For Emergencies

CHEBOYGAN CO., MI -- If you're a part of a cell phone plan, you know that every couple of years you can upgrade to a new phone.

But did you know that old phone could be a life-saver?

The Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department will take your unwanted phone, refurbish it, and give it to seniors and other organizations for free.

The department is a new member of the National Cell Phone Bank Program, which puts old phones that would be thrown out on the ear of somebody who has an emergency.

The old cell phones have the 911 capability and would be for emergencies only.

"This is a very good program that the Sheriff's Department and our Senior Centers have worked together and collaborative effort to provide for our senior citizens," said Cheboygan County Sheriff Dale Clarmont.

1,000 law enforcement agencies across the nation participate in the program.

If you'd like to donate for this good cause, you can drop your old phone off at the Cheboygan County Sheriff's Office.
