MANCELONA -- Mancelona Public Schools will have to get by with fewer teachers next year.
Superintendent Jeffery DiRosa said four teachers will be cut from their staff.
DiRosa said the cutbacks stem from the school’s declining enrollment and insufficient funding.
Meanwhile, Elk Rapids School District is trying to come up with a plan to combat a budget shortfall that almost exceeds one million dollars.
School leaders there are taking a closer look at 15 programs for possible cuts. The programs being considered include transportation, athletics and alternative education. Staff rearrangements are also being considered.
Elk Rapids administrators said staff salary and benefits make up almost 85% of the school's budget.
