LANSING (AP) -- Michigan lawmakers still are searching for a compromise on proposals that might entice thousands of public school employees to retire this summer.
Negotiators from the Republican-led Senate and Democrat-led House were continuing their search for a deal Tuesday. A formal conference committee on the legislation was recessed but discussions continued behind the scenes.
Lawmakers were hoping to have a deal done last week but they haven't agreed on how sweet pension incentives should be for school employees who decide to retire.
Employees who stay on the job would have to contribute 3 percent of their salaries to retirement plans but lawmakers haven't agreed if that money should go to pensions or retiree health care.
