DETROIT (AP) -- Two more vacant Detroit schools are being demolished as the district continues to knock down empty, dangerous and blighted buildings across the city.
The district says Sherrard and the adjacent Breitmeyer school will come down Tuesday. A new school police headquarters eventually will be built at that location.
The former Detroit City High School was demolished Monday. It was the first of 10 empty school buildings slated to come down through June. The demolition work is expected create more than 100 jobs.
Bond money is paying for the demolitions. More than 100 Detroit public schools have been closed since 2004, mostly due to shrinking enrollment. Emergency financial manager Robert Bobb plans to close more than 40 more in June.
