COE TOWNSHIP (AP) -- Isabella County is putting a golf course up for auction at a price officials say is a steal.
Treasurer Steve Pickens told the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant that he believes the Winding Brook course in Coe Township is a viable business. The minimum bid is about $200,000 for the property, which is assessed at $1.6 million.
All but one acre of the more than 150-acre property is up for sale. Pickens said former owner JRD Golf Ventures of Midland failed to pay all or a portion of its property taxes in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
The acre that isn't being sold will be turned over to the county. It houses a cell tower and billboard.
