Intense Mounted Police Training
BENZIE CO. -- Dozens of mounted police officers from across the state of Michigan are in Benzie County for three days of intense training.
Law enforcement officials from more than 10 counties are putting books aside, and giving real life scenarios a try.
Training takes place at Winnsonnet Stable on Lake Ann Road. Mounted officers are working on crowd management situations by actually putting on a riot. Authorities say it’s the best way to practice. They’ll be ready when these skills are needed.
Highland Park Police Detective, Lorenzo Veal II says, “Officers right now are realizing where they are with their mounts, which one needs work, which need work with their horses. We train officers in tactical skill they will use on the streets.”
