NORTHPORT -- A two story house in Northport caught on fire Friday evening. The home sits on Garthe Road. Crews from Leelanau Township and Northport are on scene. The homes roof was caved in when fire crews got there. Because the house is on a hill it took 5,000 gallons of water just to get to the top. Fire crews say their main concern was a propane tank next to the house.
One Leelanau Township fire fighter was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They believe it to be cardiac related. The house is a complete loss. We're told no one was inside at the time, however neighbors say there were dogs and cats inside and they don't know where they are. They could have been burned in the fire. The neighbor says the homeowners are away in Virginia and their daughter was taking care of the place. We're told she had left for work a couple hours before.
