TRAVERSE CITY -- Central Grade School 5th grade teacher, Jaye Lynn Trapp, has been recognized as the 2010 Outstanding American History Teacher in the Grand Traverse Area by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for her outstanding work in bringing American History to life in the studies, lives, and minds of her students.
Jaye Lynn Trapp holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from Central Michigan University.
She employs a number of techniques to improve student learning, including subject integration and role-playing. She is an active member of the Michigan Geographic Alliance and has presented at a number of state and national conferences. She also created an integrated curriculum for the Dennos Museum Inuit Studies Program.
She was awarded the Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Educator Award in 2003 and Ameritech’s Teacher Excellence Award for integrating technology into the classroom. The list of her educational awards is lengthy and attests to her dedication to the profession.
"Jaye Lynn Trapp's enthusiasm and commitment to her own learning, both about teaching and the subjects she teaches, have benefited her students so much over the years she's taught for TCAPS,” commented TCAPS’ Director of Professional Development, Jim Linsell. “We are lucky to have such a dedicated, creative teacher in our schools."
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.
Mrs. Trapp was honored at an awards presentation and luncheon on Saturday, April 17th, at the Traverse City Elks Lodge.
