TRAVERSE CITY -- A Traverse City area company is getting bigger with the purchase of a company in Antrim County.

Team Elmer's announced Thursday the company has purchased Drenth Brothers, Inc. of Ellsworth, Mich.  The announcement was made by Team Elmer's Co-Owners Troy Broad, Todd Broad and Tonya Wildfong.

Drenth Brothers has been a leading provider of sand, gravel, and stone in Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, and Otsego Counties for more than six decades.

Drenth Brothers owns and operates an office and gravel operation in Ellsworth. Ten employees currently work for the company. The Drenth name, brand, and operations will be transitioning to Team Elmer's over the next several weeks.

Commenting on the announcement, Troy Broad said, "This is a great opportunity for us to partner with a long-respected company, and also to expand our footprint in the Petoskey, Charlevoix and Gaylord markets. It's an exciting time to be expanding."

Broad added that the acquisition will also provide Team Elmer's an excellent local source for aggregate.

Steve Drenth, a second-generation owner, added, "We're delighted with this combination. We've admired Team Elmer's from afar, and look forward to helping them grow and expand throughout the region. Fortunately our cultures are very similar because we are both longtime, family-owned businesses."

Team Elmer's, a family owned company since 1956, specializes in site development, including excavation, earth moving, underground utility installation, retaining wall construction, directional boring, manhole rehabilitation, aggregate production, concrete ready-mix, asphalt installation (commercial and residential), milling, and crane/rigging, among other specialties. Today, Traverse City, Mich.-based Team Elmer's has grown to include nearly 300 skilled personnel.

Drenth Brothers, Inc. was started in 1948 by Gerrit, George, Harvey and John Drenth. The company has been involved in manufacturing concrete products, excavating, building construction, sand and gravel production and wood pallets over the years. In recent years, the company has concentrated on production and delivery of a large variety of sand and gravel products along with excavating and general trucking.
