TRAVERSE CITY -- After a long application process, Traverse City has been given special recognition by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Traverse City has been named a "Coast Guard City", a title that required approval from Congress.
This means the community has a long standing relationship with the Coast Guard making the city feel like a home away from home for service members.
Officials say it is a huge honor. Traverse City is only the second city in the state to receive the title.
