TRAVERSE CITY -- The Old Town Parking Deck is nearing completion, with the architects announcing Monday the precast portion is done.
There will be several more days of work dismantling the large crane used for the process but traffic will be returned to normal on 8th street between Cass and Union St. by the end of the week.
Groundbreaking for the parking deck project took place last fall, and construction really kicked into high gear in February.
Although the building looks complete there are still several months of work required to complete detail work including the electrical, mechanical, sealants, cast-in place concrete slabs, glass, painting and renewable energy elements.
The entire project will be completed 6 weeks ahead of the initial occupancy date of September 15, 2010. There will be period closures for utility work in the alley west of the project between April 26th through June 10th, however access will still be maintained to parking behind the businesses, located on Union Street, through construction from either 8th Street or Lake Street. The alley on the east side of the project will be closed periodically for repaving between April 19th and May 12 but access provisions will be made to allow access from either Lake Street or Cass Street.
