Event draws attention to hunger issues

Sunday was a day of good food - for a good cause. It started at the "Empty Bowls" event in Traverse City.

It's a symbolic way to emphasize those in need who are hungry, across the country and here at home. The 8th annual event at the Hagerty Center benefits the Fresh Food Partnership, which supports local agriculture while helping those in need.

Each ticket buys an empty hand-made bowl and a bowl of soup donated by local restaurants. Organizers say that this year, local artists and school kids donated 730 bowls, and just about all of them were sold.
