(AP) -- House GOP Leader Kevin Elsenheimer has decided against running for U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak's seat in Michigan's 1st District.

Elsenheimer spokesman Bill Nowling told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the Kewadin Republican has decided that "it's probably not the right move for him."

Stupak announced Friday that he wouldn't run for re-election after 18 years. Republicans hope to pick up the seat, and three GOP candidates and one Democrat already are in the race to represent the sprawling northern Michigan district.

Elsenheimer can't run again for the House because of term limits. He may enter the race for an open district court seat in the Traverse City area.
