Speculation now that Justice Stevens plans retirement

(AP) -- The retirement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens is renewing talk about whether Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm might be among those considered to replace him.

A Granholm spokeswoman says the governor maintains being nominated to serve on the supreme court would be a privilege, "but there are many worthy potential nominees."

Granholm last month said she considers it unlikely she would be appointed to a Supreme Court vacancy.

The Governor isn't a judge, although she is Michigan's former Attorney General.
