TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City Police are searching for suspects after two downtown businesses were burglarized within a week of each other.
The latest break-in occurred early Tuesday morning at Lifer Skate Shop.
This is not the first time the business has been targeted.
“I said, again? This is our second one,” Co-Owner Billy Wood said.
Shortly after 5 a.m., police were alerted by ADT Security. Officers then notified Wood and his business partner Chris Liss.
“We are a relatively new business, so this can be really tough. Our insurance deductable is almost what they stole. This is all out of our pockets or out of our business expense,” Liss said.
Lifer Skate Shop opened last July. In August, they were broken into for the first time. Paying for the burglaries has made it difficult for Wood and Liss to operate their business.
“Billy and I are both parents. We have children at home, mouths to feed, homes to take care of and bills to pay. This just takes away from all of that,” Liss said.
Lifer Skate Shop is not the only business dealing with break-ins.
Early Saturday morning, Traverse City Police responded to a burglary at another downtown business, Blue in the Face.
Police said suspects had entered the store by breaking multiple windows. Several smoking pipes were stolen from the property.
As police continue to search for information about the burglaries, they are asking for your help. If you have any information abut the crimes, you can call the Silent Observer Tip Line (231-947-TIPS).
