Dennis Lennox has reached a Deferred Prosecution agreement with the Cheboygan County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, resulting in a dismissal.

Per the agreement, Lennox will be on a four month deferral period where he will not be prosecuted, if he completes 25 hours of community service work and avoid any other violations of law.

A deferred prosecution agreement is something occasionally offered to first time offenders where the criminal allegation is not extremely serious. The Prosecutor says Lennox wrote a public letter of apology, paid back the county and agreed to perform community service.

Lennox issued the following public apology:

"I acknowledge mailing Drain Commissioner Christmas cards and using County postage.  Some of the cards contained campaign content.  While I acknowledge the campaign finance law was violated, I maintain that I posses character and integrity.  I apologize to the people of Cheboygan County and have paid full restitution for the entire cost of the mailing.  I acknowledge the Prosecutor had the right and responsibility to prosecute this case under current law."
