ST. IGNACE (AP) -- A Midland County man has been sentenced to 15 to 22½ years in prison after pleading guilty to driving into a group of people walking along an Upper Peninsula road, killing three women.

Dustan L. Bowen of Sanford was sentenced Friday after pleading no contest Feb. 5 to three counts of negligent homicide. A no-contest plea is not a guilty plea but is treated the same when determining a sentence.

Mackinac County Prosecutor Fred Feleppa says the 28-year-old Bowen admitted responsibility for the July 25 crash near Gould City that killed 26-year-old Jonel Hoogterp and 31-year-old Julie Hatch, both of Durham, N.C., and 24-year-old Sara Dobbrastine of Kent City.

Police say they were among a group of people gathered for a family reunion.
